I want to be clear, I am not upset that my test was canceled. Iowa was hit with a bad storm 3 days prior, knocking out power to most of the state- a completely legitimate reason to cancel an exam. However, it is this testings center's response to the situation that has lead to the one star review. The exam was cancelled without any warning or notification prior to arriving to the testing center.
I attempted to call the center directly both two days and the day prior to my exam and was never able to get in contact with anyone. A simple change to the voice mailbox message stating that the exam center was closed would have been greatly appreciated. It's possible that power is required to make that change so I understand if that simply wasn't possible.
However, the day prior to my exam I called the prometric 1-800 number associated with my exam. They stated that although I was unable to contact the site, they were in contact with Hiawatha manager, who stated that they were planning to conduct testing as usual, including the following day (the day my exam was scheduled). This status was updated to cancelled at 7:00 am on the morning of my test.
Thus, there are only two possibilities for how my exam was inevitably cancelled. First, a manager arrived (and despite the unit having lights on inside), decided that testing could not be administered and did not want to wait an hour to alert the test takers that their exam was canceled, knowing that cooperate would not have enough time to send out an email. Or second, no one came to the center that morning, meaning they had no intention of administering tests on this day. If they had simply canceled my exam the day prior, I would have been able to reschedule at a different location for the following day. However, they chose not to do so, forcing a missed opportunity to reschedule.
During this process I received messages from classmates stating that it was not uncommon for the testing center to not open until exactly 8:00 am (despite most tests asking takers to arrive 30 min prior) or even open late. Thus, based on my experience and the experience of multiple of my classmates, I would not recommend this testing center.
